After the success of Chang’s piece Before I Die, as part of MERGE 2013, this year  Candy Chang has reworked a piece that was originally produced in New York in 2006. To encourage self-evaluation whilst walking around the Bankside area, in Sidewalk Psychiatry, Candy Chang will pose ten psychological questions on the pavements around Bankside with stencils and temporary spray chalk. This project is part of Bankside Transformed.

What do you Want?

Do they know how you feel?

Then why do you do it?

What are you waiting for?

Every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts.”  Søren Kierkegaard

Candy Chang is a Taiwanese American artist. An introvert with a background in urban planning and design, she explored quiet and more inclusive ways to reflect and share with her neighbours. Since 2008, she has created interactive experiments in public space, which have inspired hundreds of remixes around the world. After losing someone she loved, she created Before I Die on an abandoned house for people to share their personal aspirations in public space.

Candy Chang is an artist, designer, and urban planner who believes our public spaces are as profound as we allow them to be. By combining public art with civic engagement and introspection, she has been recognized for her projects to improve our communities and ourselves. She is a TED Senior Fellow, a Tulane Urban Innovation Fellow, and a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader.e
