RORY MORE LIVE AT BOROUGH MARKET, SE1

Date: 20TH SEPTEMBER 2014

Time: 11am- 3pm.

Location: Market Hall, Borough Market, SE1.

Rory More has been honing his brand of cinematic, smoky instrumental swing since the mid-’90s incorporating sweeping soulful strings and a lush dynamic array of big-group sounds – perfect feelgood music for lounging around the Market on an easy Saturday morning.  “The DJs I work with are the best around,” says Rory.  “People like Karminsky Experience and a couple of others who are well-seasoned vinyl specialists. The whole event will be a thoroughly groovy affair with all kinds of swinging tunes that the audience will recognise.”

Check out the sounds and Rory’s Lowrey organ in the Market Hall.

Nick Bicât's 'Perpetua' at Southwark Cathedral

Wednesday 1st October, performances at 15.30 and 19.00

The dramatic story of a young woman's stand against the might of the Roman Empire. Peter Wright conducts the Cantata Dramatica Soloists with the Merbecke Choir, Koruso! (Southwark Community Choir) and dancers from Moving Visions company.

The London premiere of ‘Perpetua’, with music by Nick Bicât and libretto by Nick Pitts-Tucker tells the moving story of a young widow and mother living in Carthage (now Tunisia) in 203 AD. An exceptional witness to a spirit of independence who found herself standing up for personal beliefs and freedom against the Roman Empire. It explains how she came to take this terrifying path and how she met the challenges before her.

Amazingly for the time, Perpetua kept a diary of the events and experiences leading up to her decision to die for her beliefs.  Nick Pitts-Tucker's libretto draws on Perpetua’s own words combined with additional contemporary texts to produce a clear and fast-moving narrative.

The music ranges from lyrical and transcendent to dramatic and confrontational. Perpetua’s emotional journey was punctuated by four striking and unusual dreams, presented by dancers from Moving Visions company.

Nick Bicât has written over 150 scores and soundtracks for film, television and theatre and has twice been nominated for a BAFTA.
